چکیده

We present results of investigations of the clinical significance of variations in the value of the 4-mm-collimator output factor, OF(4/18). Changes in treatment volume, dose-volume histograms (DVHs), and isodose distributions were studied, by varying OF(4/18) up to 20%. The variations were performed on a sample of clinical patient treatment plans for which the 4 mm collimator was used. Although smaller effects are noted for the prescription isodose line, greater dosimetric changes occur for higher dose regions within the target.

Assessment of basic physical and dosimetric parameters of synthetic single-crystal diamond detector and its use in Leksell Gamma Knife and CyberKnife small radiosurgical fields

Background: To determine the basic physical and dosimetric properties of a new synthetic single-crystal diamond detector and its application for relative small field dosimetry. Materials and Methods: The pre-irradiation dose required to stabilize detector response, dose rate dependence, photon and electron energy dependence, temperature dependence and angular dependence of MicroDiamond detector...

Monte Carlo calculated output factors of a Leksell Gamma Knife unit.

The Leksell Gamma Knife is a standard radiosurgical tool for treating brain lesions by directing beams of gamma radiation to a specific region. The diameter of the gamma beams is confined by collimator systems and available collimator sizes are 4, 8, 14 and 18 mm. The reduction in dose rate for each collimator helmet is called the output factor (OPF). Experimental determination of OPFs is diffi...

Monte Carlo calculation of single-beam dose profiles used in a gamma knife treatment planning system.

The accuracy of single-beam dose profiles used in the algorithm of the Gamma Knife treatment planning system (Leksell GammaPlan) is verified. EGS4 Monte Carlo calculation was employed to calculate the dose distributions of single-beams in a spherical water phantom with diameter 160 mm. The beams were directed to the center of the phantom. Collimators of 4, 8, 14, and 18 mm sizes were studied. T...

Dosimetry and mechanical accuracy of the first rotating gamma system installed in North America.

The purpose of this paper is to present the dosimetry and mechanical accuracy of the first rotating gamma system (RGS) installed in North America for stereotactic radiosurgery. The data were obtained during the installation, acceptance test procedure, and commissioning of the unit. The RGS unit installed at UC Davis Cancer Center (RGSu) has modifications on the source and collimator bodies from...

Measurements of the relative output factors for CyberKnife collimators.

OBJECTIVE To determine accurately the relative output factors, defined as the ratio of the nominal dose rate for a given collimator to that of the 60-mm collimator. This is particularly important for radiosurgical treatment of functional disorders, such as trigeminal neuralgia, in which a single large radiation dose is delivered to the target with a small collimator, such as the 5-mm collimator...
